I was born in 1970 and raised in Devon. I moved to Hampshire just before my eleventh birthday. When I left school I eventually worked in the building trade, and after many years started my own business. I did this for a few years but in the end ill health forced me to stop. Then, not long after, I had a break down ending up in one of my first stays in hospital. Afterwards I became aware of a child hood I didn't know about (through having what I later found out was a mental block). I didn't receive the help I should have from the health service sadly, and after years of this I started to complain and then campaign on child abuse awareness issues. Amongst all this I started to write again, having stopped for years, and in 2010 I published my first book 'Whispers From Within'. I've been on the radio with my poetry and the issues above. Much of my poetry raises awareness of child abuse and its consequences in later life. Something I obviously feel very strongly about. I've been published a few times, read my poetry to the public (including at two anti child abuse rallies held in London in both 2009 and 2010), I'm trying to add to this all the time. I'm now also well on my way to my second book. Despite the paucity of data about the growing incidence of Child Sexual Abuse in Nigeria, it is very apparent that it is growing at an alarming rate. A cursory look at the newspapers and discussions with Police officers confirms this. CSA, in Nigeria, is an epidemic that has refused to go despite efforts made by Government, Non-Governmental Organization, and individuals.
Unfortunately, majority of the child victims of Child Sexual Abuse are abused by Paedophiles who the children love, trust and live with. The need to intervene in this situation through education of vulnerable children and parents has become an imperative. The vehicle developed to carry this out is THE FREE CHILD WORKSHOP.
THE FREE CHILD WORKSHOP
With a slogan, EDUCATE A PARENT: SECURE THE DESTINY OF THREE CHILDREN, the objective of the workshop is to create awareness and educate communities within Lagos environs on the existence of the crime - CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE. This approach is driven by the fact that education is an important key to preventing child sexual abuse. The workshop is organised separately for Parents, Children, Teachers, The Clergy and Caregivers. Some of the workshop themes include, Child Sexual abuse – A Hidden Epidemic, The Medical implications of CSA, The Legal Rights of an Abused Child, Keeping our children safe on the Internet. The Workshop has been held mostly in churches and schools. Letters were also sent out to solicit for speaking opportunities. These have met with mixed successes with several negative responses as well as significant positive acceptance.
Since the workshop started in 2010, over 3,000 parents and 2,000 children have been impacted. This Workshop has therefore protected over 12,000 children from child sexual abuse. Through the workshop, parents who are ignorant of CSA are now well-informed and better equipped to recognize the signs of CSA, who can abuse a child, the short and long term effects of CSA. In addition, parents have learnt how to react when the inevitable happens and where to seek help. This workshop has been supported by articles in the newspapers, pamphlets as well as interviews on the television.
In addition, a book titled; Child Sexual Abuse – A Handbook for Children, has also been published. The book, written in simple language with colourful, child-friendly pictures, also has activity sessions that has helped thousands of children in Nigeria identify what child sexual abuse is, who can abuse them, where they can be abused, how to know a potential abuser, how to get help when abused and other relevant information. The book has created a bond between parents and children because they now have the opportunity to ask questions they would not have ordinarily asked. Through the book, a mother discovered her child was being sexually abused by a close relative.
OUR PLANS FOR 2012
In 2012, we will launch flyers and posters tagged – Protect. Educate. Prevent (PEP)
The object of these medium is to protect children from CSA by educating them on 10 smart rules they need to follow that will help protect them from being abused. Posters will be pasted in school, churches and homes. The flyers will be distributed to children in different parts of Lagos-Nigeria.
We have a target to educate and create awareness to at least 10,000 parents, teachers and children on the menace of child sexual abuse. This will be achieved through speaking to parents in churches, communities and at different forum. School and Church teachers will also be trained through The Free Child Workshop. We will also visit schools to educate the children too.
We are registered delegates and exhibitor to the Child Sexual Abuse Conference organized by African Network for the Prevention and Protection Against Child Abuse and Neglect (APPCAN) taking place in Ghana. Attending this conference will enable us Partner with other NGOs and Government agencies that will be interested in our vision.
The publishing of the second book written by the Founder/Project Coordinator – Christianah Akindolie is on-going. We hope to present the eleven chapter book titled – CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE – A HANDBOOKF OR PARENTS to the public by the first quarter of 2012. Through the book, parents will have basic knowledge of what child sexual abuse is. The top attraction is the real life stories in each chapter. Parents should look at for quality, good delivery, good packaging and basic knowledge of child sexual abuse.
In CFF, we believe that Prevention is better than cure.

Hard copies was placed as a long term goal however because of the many request we are now looking in that direction.
